My Childhood Fence—and what it means for you!

Have I ever told you about my all-time favorite fence? Well, it’s actually the one I used to play on during my childhood days! A few years ago, I rescued it from the burn pile (yes, it was almost toast!). I managed to put up as much of it as I could for my pet photography gigs. This fence is loaded with character and countless memories, and it just makes my heart sing to see it standing tall and proud (just don’t touch it because it might fall apart! 😄)

The fence was with me since I was 3 (see the image of my brother & me…our attire might say it all). My parents sold our home in 1991 & from then on, I could only admire it as I’d drive by.

As the years passed, I noticed the fence started to show its age. And bit by bit, it started coming down.

I figured I needed to stop & introduce myself just in case they ever wanted to get rid of it. “I’m Ann & I grew up here. (more chatting) So, I’m a pet photographer & if you every decide you don’t want the fence…”

A year or so went by. After my mom’s funeral, my dad & my three brothers stopped at that home to reminisce. And there it was. In a pile. Ready to be set on fire.

Long story short, I was able to get the remaining pieces, take it to my own property & use it for pet photography!

What does my childhood fence mean for you? If you decide to go for an outdoor photo session with me, there’s a good chance your furry friend will strike a pose next to my childhood fence. Who would’ve thought that this humble fence would end up being the perfect backdrop for my dream job as an adult? It just goes to show that sometimes the simplest things in life can turn out to be the most valuable.

I’ve used it for almost every session—check out some of the images below.

This just makes me so happy. I enlisted some help from our neighbors—who are way better with plants than I am!
